About and methodology

Last updated 24 September 2026

AI NSFW Bots is a directory of adult AI chat platforms and the characters people chat with on them. We review 28 platforms and list 14,356 characters from their public catalogues, with links to both. This page explains who runs the site, where the facts come from, how scores and rankings work, how often things are updated and how to report a mistake.

Who runs this site

AI NSFW Bots is run by a small team, and its reviews and guides are written and kept up to date by our editors. You can reach us at hi@ainsfwbots.com or through the contact page.

What the site is, and what it is not

  • It is a directory. Each platform has a review with prices, free tier limits, features, privacy and payment notes, pros and cons. The character index, best-of lists, comparisons and guides are built on the same data.
  • It is not a chat service. We do not host chats, build characters or take payments. When you click through, the conversation, the subscription and your data are handled by the platform under its own terms.
  • It is for adults only. Everything here is for people aged 18 or over.

How we collect platform facts

Each review starts from the platform's own pages: its pricing page, terms of service, privacy policy, FAQ and help centre. We cross-check those against recent third-party reviews. When a figure only appears after sign-up, or the platform does not publish it, we use the most recent published source we can find.

Every review shows:

  • its sources, as links;
  • what we could not verify;
  • the date its prices were checked.

The "from" price is the lowest cost per month of any plan. When that price needs a longer commitment, it says so, for example "billed yearly", and the month-to-month price is given next to it where there is one. Prices change often, so confirm the price on the platform before you pay.

How we collect characters

Characters are synced every night from the public catalogues of 28 platforms. For each one we store the name, description, tags, public statistics such as chat counts and a resized copy of its image, and we link back to the character on its platform. Names, descriptions and images belong to the platforms and their creators.

Every character is screened against our content policy before it appears. Excluded characters never appear on the site, and their images are removed. Characters that disappear from a platform's catalogue are hidden after 45 days.

How scores work

Every platform is scored from 1 to 10 on the same six criteria:

  • Chat quality: how well the writing holds up: staying in character, memory and consistency over long chats.
  • Characters: how many there are, the range of styles, and the tools for making your own.
  • Features: voice, images, video, group chat, apps and other tools.
  • Value: what the free tier and the paid plans include for the price, including credits that run out.
  • Privacy and payments: how the platform uses and keeps your data, what sign-up asks for, and payment options such as discreet billing or crypto.
  • Ease of use: sign-up, the interface on phones and desktop, and apps.

The overall score is the plain average of the six scores, rounded to one decimal place. Each review shows all six and a note on why they were given.

Chat quality is the hardest criterion to judge from public pages. It is based on the models and memory features the platform documents and on recent published reviews. When the evidence is thin, we keep the score moderate and the note says so.

Visitor ratings (1 to 5 stars) and written reviews are shown separately and never change the score. Ratings are limited to one per person per item, and written reviews are moderated before they appear.

How ranking works

  • Numbered lists are ordered by the overall score; when two platforms have the same score, a featured placement decides which comes first. The best free list is the one exception: it is ordered by how much the free tier includes, and the overall ranking breaks ties.
  • Affiliate deals never change a score or a rank.
  • The "Partner picks" box at the top of lists shows up to three platforms we have a partner link with: the highest-ranked partner in that list, the partner with the most free use and the cheapest partner. A label such as "Best free" appears only when the pick is first among all platforms, not just partners. The box sits above the numbered list and does not change it.
  • Some platforms have no partner programme. On their review and character pages, the main button leads to a partner alternative, with a note that says so, and a plain link to the platform itself stays next to it.
  • Sponsored placements are labelled "Sponsored". The affiliate disclosure has the details.

How often we update

  • Characters: every night.
  • Prices and free tiers: re-checked on each platform's own pages, and every review shows the date of its last check.
  • Guides: each guide shows the date it was last updated.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, email hi@ainsfwbots.com or choose "A correction to an existing listing" on the submit page. Tell us the page, what should change and, if you can, a source. When we confirm an error, we fix it and update the checked date on the review.

Change log

  • : Launched with 27 platform reviews.
  • : Character sync extended to 21 platforms.
  • : Ranking order and the labels on the picks box made consistent across all lists.
  • : Content policy tightened: characters who are under 18 in their source anime, game or show, school settings and school uniforms, real people including streamers and VTubers, and characters in languages our screening does not cover are now excluded.
